We stay at the Kimpton Vividora, tucked into the Gothic Quarter a few minutes from Plaça Catalunya and Las Ramblas. Highlights: a rooftop pool and terrace bar with old-city views, a garden courtyard restaurant, light-filled rooms, daily breakfast, a fitness studio, and everything walkable - El Born, La Boqueria and the cathedral are all minutes from the door.

Three nights in the number one party destination on earth, timed for closing season when the island is still fully open and prices have come off their August peak. You stay on Playa d'en Bossa at the Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, walking distance from Ushuaïa and Hi Ibiza. In between there's a private boat to Formentera, a Café del Mar sunset and a farewell dinner up in the old town.
